At our location on the Werfkade in Amsterdam, you can rent our training room and studio for workshops, training sessions and development programs. Trainer Marijke Spanjersberg has been hosting her programs here for many years. In this interview with Esther, Project Manager at De Federatie, she shares why she chose our venue and what keeps her coming back. Trainer Gerben Zonneveld also reflects on his experiences at the Werfkade.
Marijke, you've been delivering your training programs here for many years. What made you choose De Federatie?
For quite some time, I had been thinking about creating my own training program. I knew I wanted to do it, but I couldn't quite picture where or how it would come to life. Everything changed when I visited De Federatie's new location. The moment I stepped inside, everything fell into place. I immediately knew this was where I wanted to launch my own program. In many ways, this space gave me the final push I needed to start something new.
And what has made you stay all these years?
The venue itself is simply exceptional. The panoramic view, the ships slowly passing by throughout the day and the ever-changing skies create a living work of art that never gets old. Just as important is the support from the De Federatie team. Everything is always perfectly organized and whenever something needs to be adjusted, they think along with you. That gives me an enormous sense of comfort and allows me to focus entirely on my participants.
How do your participants experience the venue?
People visiting for the first time almost always stop to admire the view. Many take photos or step onto the terrace before the session begins. Another great advantage is the flexibility of the space. Even with a group of twelve participants, there's plenty of room to alternate between plenary sessions and smaller breakout groups without changing rooms. That keeps the energy high and creates a natural rhythm throughout the day.
Gerben, you've been working alongside Marijke for the past year and have also chosen to host your own programs here. What makes this such a great location for you?
For me, the venue has become part of the learning experience itself. That was true when Marijke first started here, and it remains true now that I'm taking over the program. I also completed the program as a participant, so I know exactly what the experience feels like.
The space truly is a gift. The natural light, the surroundings and the excellent hospitality all contribute to an environment where people feel comfortable and ready to learn. For me, it simply makes sense that the program continues to be delivered here.
Is there anything that really stands out to you?
Nothing comes to mind that needs improvement. In fact, several recent upgrades have made the venue even better. The new elevator has made the space accessible to everyone, including participants with limited mobility. The renovated restrooms on the same floor are a welcome addition, and the new coffee machine has completed an already excellent hospitality experience.
What's it like for you as a trainer to work here?
Ik zou zeggen heel vertrouwd. En dat is best bijzonder aangezien ik nog niet zo lang aan de federatie verbonden ben. Esther en Hanneke zijn altijd beschikbaar even mee te denken en staan klaar om te helpen als dat nodig is. En in het begin was het overnemen van de leergang en alleen voor de groep staan best spannend, maar helemaal alleen voelde het dus niet.
